Changes to local orthopaedic surgery given the go-ahead

The planned changes will see orthopaedic surgery moved to a dedicated centre at Central Middlesex Hospital.

Plans to open a new centre of excellence for orthopaedic surgery at Central Middlesex Hospital have been given the go-ahead by NHS North West London.

It is hoped that the changes will improve quality and reduce long waiting times, primarily for hip and knee replacements.

This builds on the results from a recent consultation which gave patients across Brent and the wider area a chance to comment on the plans.

  • 1959 people participated and most thought that the proposal was a good idea
  • Patients and carers were more likely to agree with the suggested changes than staff or other stakeholders
  • Some patients expressed concerns about travel to the hospital, and services for patients at home after being discharged.

You can see the results in more detail here.
